It’s heartbreaking to see the dual reality inside Bank of Baroda At the Baroda Corporate Centre (BCC), BKC Mumbai, staff are seen dancing and celebrating Garba during official working hours... no circulars, no decorum, just joy. Meanwhile, in the branches: 1. Staff are drowning in pressure 2. Unrealistic targets are thrown like grenades 3. No space for relief, no mention of “celebration” Some have lost their lives to this pressure. Recently, Chief Manager Shiv Shankar Mitra died by suicide inside the branch, followed by Ishwar Chandra Jha, Senior Manager. These are not just names, they were people, serving under the same system. Why was stress transferred to branches 100x faster than celebration? Why are only BCC staff entitled to joy, music, dance, release... while the branch warriors are handed deadlines, warnings, and silence? If fun is to be organized, shouldn’t it be where the pressure is highest? If Garba was so important, maybe make branch staff do it too — they’d probably outperform the BCC folks in energy and spirit. After all, they serve customers face-to-face all day and absorb the pressure that the dancing folks never see. In any fair system, entertainment belongs to the ground force first, not just the ivory tower.

Bishal, a Bank of Baroda employee, died by suicide. He wanted to quit. But a Rs 5 lakh bond scared him into staying. He thought the bank would take legal action if he left without paying. I asked a Supreme Court advocate about this. His answer: that fear was not real. A bond like this cannot be enforced in court. Employer cannot sue you just for leaving. Bishal did not know this. Tell every banker you know: a bond cannot trap you. You can leave.

I have a few questions for the MD of Bank of Baroda, Mr. Debadatta: Your bank’s logo is called the Baroda Sun. A sun that is supposed to eliminate darkness and bring light. Your bank claims to offer a rewarding career to its employees... So if there’s still any life left in this so-called sun, then please answer the following: Why was so much pressure put on your employee, Mr. Shiv Shankar Mitra, that he was forced to take the decision of opting for VRS? And even after submitting his VRS application, why couldn’t this Baroda Sun bring light into his life? What pushed him to the point where he ended his life? You speak of removing darkness and spreading light. Then why did some of your own officials together destroy the life and hopes of Shiv Shankar Mitra and his family? Will your bank now take strict action against those who mentally tortured an honest employee to the point of suicide? And I also have a question for the Union AIBOBOA Is the union only meant to collect monthly subscriptions, organize meetings at tourist destinations, and then post those meeting photos on WhatsApp groups and on X (Twitter)? Till 10 AM on 19th July 2025, not a single association of Bank of Baroda posted anything about this incident.
