The Tanaiste Simon Harris says he sought “additional clinical consultations, which did take place” when the case of Harvey Morrison was raised with him last year. The 9-year-old, who waited years for scoliosis surgery, died on the 29th of July after a short illness. The child’s parents have called on the former Minister of Health Simon Harris to resign, while they’ve also said Children’s Health Ireland should be disbanded. Aontú have also said he should resign over failures of care of the late Harvey Morrison.

Yesterday Fine Gael TD Barry Ward says on RTE that there are problems with the international protection system… He also said that the Tanaiste Simon Harris was correct in saying Ireland's asylum seeker system is not working and that the Government should reconsider existing policies "in a very serious way". This comes almost two years after Deputy Ward told me I was “wrong”on Upfront on RTE when I said our international protection system was broken. In fact he said “do I think it’s perfect, no. Fianna Fáil's candidate Jim Gavin has withdrawn from the Presidential Election "with immediate effect". Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he fully understands Mr Gavin's decision and believes "it is the correct one". What a difference a few days makes in politics. In Copenhagen on Wednesday I asked Micheál Martin did he have any regrets picking Jim Gavin as the FF candidate. He said that he was going very well and that he was getting very strong feedback. What does this say about the FF leaders judgement?
