But that shouldn’t be a cause for alarm. The focus must remain on building your economies—investing in infrastructure, generating employment, increasing income, and expanding productive capacity. National debt, when used wisely, is a powerful tool to mobilize real resources for long-term growth. It’s not the size of the debt that matters most, but the direction in which it is used. If it drives development and strengthens the economy, it becomes part of the solution, not the problem. Trying to boost domestic industry through #tariffs as in the case of #Trump and urging people to 'buy Indian' as in the case of Modi, while simultaneously adhering to mainstream economic orthodoxy, is a contradiction—and it simply won’t work. #TrumpTariffs
