It’s Sylvester Stallone’s 80th birthday and #OnThisDay in 1982, he discussed playing the role of Vietnam veteran John Rambo in the film ‘First Blood’, which he also co-wrote. The Rambo films would go onto become a successful franchise with Stallone co-writing all the films.

#OnThisDay 1972: Walter's one-person picket against his former employer entered its fifth month.

#OnThisDay 1960: A British schoolgirl cheerily told Judith Chalmers about her holiday, which involved accidentally getting arrested in East Germany.

It's Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday and in 1980 he faced questions from an audience of young viewers about his life and television career. Lesley Judd hosted the show, and Attenborough talked about making a connection with gorillas, and his concerns for the environment.

“I wouldn’t be seen dead with a coat on a hanger in the back of my car.” Company car drivers from the early nineties explain why their car is not merely a means of transport, but a reflection of their status and proof of their position within the organisation.

Back in 1968, Harold Williamson paid a visit to primary school kids in Liverpool to talk about their favourite books and reading habits.

#OnThisDay 2001: Wimbledon FC angered its fans with a controversial proposal to move to another ground - in Milton Keynes.

#OnThisDay 1908: James Bond author Ian Fleming was born. Geoffrey Boothroyd was a gun aficionado who wrote to Fleming asking him to change Bond's signature gun – a Beretta – to one more powerful. In this clip, Boothroyd shows why he thought Bond needed a gun with more oomph.

#OnThisDay 1985: Before Back to the Future was released in the UK, Terry Wogan sat down with Michael J Fox, the then relatively unknown actor behind central character Marty McFly. Soon, both star and film would go stratospheric.
