Here is Calum back on the increasingly unsettled weather front. Heavy showers spreading north this afternoon and becoming more widespread with some downpours in the mix and perhaps a rumble of thunder for some. Best of the brighter conditions in the far north and northeast.

A very cold start to 2026 and very snowy for northern Scotland where large accumulations will build up as heavy snow showers feed in; risk thunder. Significant disruption; risk of power cuts/blocked roads. Further south, risk snow showers as troughs slide south, but mostly dry.
