Bangladesh’s patience with the Arakan Army is wearing thin. At a high-level strategic seminar in Dhaka, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen S M Kamrul Hassan, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, PhD identified Myanmar as “the greatest security challenge since independence.” Speaking at the “Regional Geopolitical Landscape: Impacts on the Security Dynamics of Bangladesh and Ways Forward” seminar, jointly organised by AFD and BIISS, Lt Gen Hassan warned that the Arakan Army’s cross-border activities and abductions now pose a direct threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty. He emphasised the need to strengthen national defence capabilities, ensure clarity in security strategy, and consider strategic alignments that best serve Bangladesh’s long-term interests.
