The cold teaches you something most people never learn: your limits are negotiable. What you think you can handle and what you can actually handle are two different things. The gap between them is where growth lives. Cold exposure isn't punishment. It's practice for life. When you train yourself to stay calm in discomfort, you build a skill that carries into everything else.

Jesus called John the Baptist the greatest man ever born. And yet in that dungeon, facing death, John had doubts. He needed to ask one more time: "Are you the one?" For me, that's incredibly reassuring. The little moments like this - the human, vulnerable ones - those are what I never heard growing up. But they're the ones that matter most. Faith isn't about having no doubts. It's about moving forward with them.

Arctic Ocean. Five of us in a small inflatable. 500 miles offshore in a gale. My best friend, not a man of faith, said he saw an angel on the bow through the whole storm. Kept thinking he was losing it. It never left. We made it through. He found a faith that day and it's never left him. Faith doesn't have to be a Sunday thing. The light has been the best thing in my life.
