Though many ships were lost to the wrath of the waves, those who survived founded the first Norse settlements, with Erik raising his hall at Brattahlíð. There his wife Thjodhild later embraced the Christian faith and built the first church on Greenland. But perhaps something deeper had drawn Erik across the ocean. Had a silent and ancient call reached him - a presence that had slumbered since times immemorial?
