A crowd including children chased him through a market, stoned and beat him while shouting Allahu Akbar until he died. The trigger was an argument over children begging, interpreted as blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad. Buda was a practicing Muslim. Such mob killings recur in northern Nigeria because blasphemy accusations spark instant vigilante “justice” with little evidence or accountability. Pew Research 2013 found majorities in many Muslim-majority countries support Sharia as official law. Among those supporters, large shares backed death for apostasy: 86% in Egypt, 82% in Jordan, 79% in Afghanistan, 76% in Pakistan.
