I couldn’t imagine getting sucked into one of these undignified Piers Morgan Uncensored shouting matches, but when a 3rd rate comedian with no foreign policy experience starts telling the world that Ukraine should capitulate to Putin for the sake of “peace”, I couldn’t hold back

Putin would lose a war with NATO in three days. We should ignore Putin’s sabre rattling and allow Ukraine to use long range missiles to hit strategic targets in Russia. All military strategists think this is right. It’s just the appeasement policy analysts holding this up.

This is a terrifying moment. If Trump wins the election, he will cut off military aid to Ukraine. Unfortunately Ukraine is totally dependent on the US to hold Putin at bay. If Putin wins in Ukraine, he will then move on to the Baltics who are our NATO allies. Then Trump will have to decide whether to honor our treaty obligations. Based on his previous disdain for NATO, that’s highly uncertain. If NATO is no more, we should brace ourselves for a world of hurt.

If Trump cuts aid for Ukraine, it will lead to Ukraine’s defences collapsing, which will set off a refugee crisis in Europe like we’ve never seen before (and that’s before Putin trains he guns on the Baltics). This is all avoidable if we seize the $300B of Russian reserves

The Iranians have shut down the Strait of Hormuz. If we can’t get it open and safe, the Russians will be big winners because their oil isn’t constrained by that. In the meantime, the price the Russians receive on their oil has shot up. Not good for Ukraine or Europe.

Ever since Putin invaded Ukraine and we froze $350 billion of Russian central bank reserves, it’s been obvious we should confiscate it and give it to Ukraine. I’m happy UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron publicly making that point. It makes moral, political and financial sense

My presentation to the UN: Putin and his cronies have stolen $1 trillion from the Russian state. Money that should have been spent on hospitals and schools was spent on yachts and private jets. The Russian people were growing restless and angry so to avoid that anger, he created a foreign enemy and started a war. The war in Ukraine isn’t about NATO enlargement or some warped vision of the Russian empire. It’s about a small man who stole too much money and is desperately trying to stay in power. Very telling reaction from the UN at the end. None too happy.

The honour of my lifetime to receive the medal of Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and from the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace on Thanksgiving day last week. I hope this provides rocket fuel in my fight for justice

Former UK Ambassador to Russia Tony Brenton (who once came to my defence when Putin kicked me out) has now gone on the record absolving Putin for Navalny’s death. Further he claims Navalny was no threat to Putin. How irresponsible and damaging at this crucial moment

Very proud to meet Mikhail Voskresensky, the most famous Russian pianist and a man of principle. When Putin invaded Ukraine, Voskresenky (who was 86 at the time) was so outraged that he spoke out against the war and had to abandon his entire life, home, wealth, friends and family and live in relative poverty in the West. We hear all sorts of people complaining about how Russian sportspeople and musicians are cancelled in the West, but they should follow the example of this man of integrity (who is welcomed with open arms) because of his political position.

Congratulations to Vladimir Kara-Murza for receiving the Freedom House Award for his bravery in challenging Putin’s murderous war in Ukraine. Although he’s sitting behind bars, he’s a truly free man for expressing his beliefs at whatever the cost.

Yesterday I was in Ottawa with James Bezan MP to launch an updated version of the Canadian Magnitsky Act to address the loopholes we found since its launch in 2017. One of the most glaring ones is that family members of sanctioned individuals should also lose their visas
