BirdLife, RSPB, and 31 NGOs are urging support for the sandeel fishing ban in UK & Scottish waters. Wind in Europe also reached out to Kadis to emphasize the need for resilient seas. Why does this matter? The European Commission is challenging the ban, claiming it might violate the EU-UK Trade Agreement. But this stance undermines global and EU environmental goals. Europe needs the law to #RestoreNature! Today, the law should have become a reality during the EU Environment Council. Instead, there was a discussion between Environment Ministers as there is no longer a majority supporting the law. Many countries spoke up in favour of the law expressing their disappointment on not being able to find a majority and adopt the law today, and their preoccupation on the implications of this deadlock. ⚠️The EU's reputation hangs in the balance in this critical year of EU elections. Failure to make the law a reality also undermines the EU’s credibility and leadership on its international commitments to tackle the biodiversity and climate crises... The Belgian Presidency, @EU2024BE, and Ursula von der Leyen must seal the deal before summer and start to #RestoreNature now. Our future depends on it as this is our change to bring nature back to Europe and tackle the intertwined nature and climate crises. 🇩🇪, 🇮🇪, 🇫🇷, 🇪🇪, 🇸🇮, 🇪🇸, 🇨🇿, 🇩🇰, 🇵🇹, 🇱🇺, 🇱🇹, 🇭🇷, 🇨🇾 all expressed their support of the law during the meeting. 🗣️Irish environment minister, Eamon Ryan

We believe the EU Commission violated its own democratic standards to force a revision of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Earlier this year, farmers took to the streets to communicate a crisis in the sector. Instead of looking deeper, the European Commission moved to scrap the most important environmental measures from this policy. The deal was rushed through within a month, behind closed doors, and totally ignored the required impact assessments or any public involvement. That’s why we are escalating this issue to the EU Ombudsman. Stay tuned. #farmersprotests2024 #NoNatureNoFood
