To compete with you, I'd have to wanna be you, therefore, there is no competition. ‘SYMPTOMS OF BITTERSWEET NOSTALGIA’ - OUT NOW
Videos

You got 2 members Danity Kane performing for their 20th anniversary. Three of six Pussycat Dolls pushing a reunion with a canceled tour. And 4/5 NSYNC members ready to hit the road? This is why New Edition & BSB reign supreme. Nothing comes before the band and the brand. Me:

Dawn Angelique Richard spoke a fucking word. Her IG Live yesterday was very enlightening and insightful. This is why I have no issue with Tinashe, Ciara or Kelly Rowland being full fledged pop girls. Dawn said it: “You guys ask for R&B but don’t buy the albums” Thank God Dawn has never let the color of her skin box her in. As an indie act, she has creative freedom. Financial Freedom is another thing. So if she’s gonna make an album, she’s gonna make what pays. Rihanna remaining primarily pop her entire career was the smartest thing she ever did. You saw the shift from her first to second albums. ‘Music Of The Sun’ - 500K. ‘A Girl Like Me’ - platinum with a #1 single. SZA: ‘SOS’ will be a diamond album shortly. She erased labels & genres and WON BIG. Stephanie Mills also spoke on this: “They don’t want R&B from us” So until Black R&B artists get the support deserved from labels & consumers, stop asking. Stop asking for nostalgia records for engagement. Y’all don’t buy the shit. Go. Get. The. Album. The shit costs money to make. You have to pay writers, producers, engineers, photographers, distributors. Then, tours have to be funded. For an album y’all ain’t buy, stream or download. You MAYBE press play on ONE record. Example: Sevyn Streeter’s amazing ‘Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz’ album. She delivered, y’all just didn’t buy it. DAWN 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Before Day26, before Mindless Behavior, there was an R&B Boy Band straight outta Chicago with all the promise in the WORLD. Originally a five piece and then four, One Chance was discovered by Usher and signed by Clive Davis on the spot. Their debut single “Look At Her” featuring Fabo of D4L had MySpace and 106 & Park in a chokehold. Their debut album ‘Private’ continued to get pushed back and eventually shelved due to continuing changes at J Records [several acts saw this fate during the J/Jive/Zomba/RCA shakeup]. After leaving J/US, they signed with T-Pain over at Nappy Boy which brought their mixtape ‘Ain’t No Room For Talkin’’. One Chance never really got their “chance” and that sucks because they truly deserved it. “Could This Be Love” is one of my favorite leaks from them. I remember everyone always said Rob looked like Lloyd 🤣. Can’t believe this was 20 years ago. Song: “Look At Her” - full ATL Snap anthem. #TBT

No disrespect to Nicole & The Pussycats but this will quite literally always be THEE reunion. Nothing tops this. This is a top five performance from them overall. Yes, they re-emerged alongside a global pandemic, but their X-Factor reunion is still talked about. Five girls [no Melody 🫶🏾] Five mics [four off 80% of the performance until “Don’t Cha”] Reverb, Fire, Water, Graphics, Petroleum Fits PCD was back like they never left. With a fire ass new single at that: “React”. [which left some fans irritated due to the lack of shared lead vocals] Keep in mind, all these women were 38-45 at this point. They hadn’t performed as a group in 10 years. Not only did they nail it like women half their age, they broke the shit in half and had fans salivating for the loading tour. To see all the bullshit [Pandemic included] take such a toll on a very promising reunion and legacy restoration is sad. The current re-reunion is even worse because it’s not the “group”. The material isn’t as strong. And Nicole still isn’t sharing leads. The overall appeal of The Pussycat Dolls [like KATSEYE] was always the troop appeal. The army-ness of it all. A girl gang with a leader. Not Nicole with interchangeable backup dancers.

Seeing Bey do this off the cuff is probably one of my favorite moments from her. I don’t even think it hit Tia in the moment that Beyonce was singing HER song to HER as a tribute. And the best part is that Tia will always have this moment on film. #RenaissanceWorldTour #RWT

Folks knew to never fuck with Solange from day one. I think that’s why she’s so well respected today as a solo act. She asserted and affirmed that she was about herself so don’t ask about Beyonce, Jay, or Destiny’s Child. She’s not them. She told y’all on “God Given Name” - “I'm not becoming expectations I'm not her and never will be Two girls going in different directions Traveling towards the same galaxy Let my starlight shine on its own No, I'm no sister I'm just my God given name” Folks have never given Kelly Rowland the same respect and it’s sad to witness. Especially this far down the line. Interviewers see her and Michelle as Beyoncé sources. Kelly been too sweet for too long instead of digging in asses and checking shit at the door. These folks take it too far with her repeatedly. KR has a whole movie out, new song with the movie, just wrapped a tour, new album loading, new tour incoming, 15 year anniversary of her breakout solo era [Motivation, Here I Am] and these heaux asking about her sister. I’d just walk out from now on. Or pull an August Alsina: “I told y’all not to ask me this shit before I came out here”. #KellyRowland #RelationshipGoals #RelationshipGoalsMovie #TheBoyIsMineTour

How I first discovered The Jaguar, Victoria Monet. She was 1/3 of Purple Reign 15 years ago. They were signed to DARKCHILD [Rodney Jerkins] & being developed by he & LaShawn Daniels [🕊️]. FFWD: Victoria Monét is a Grammy winning, platinum selling STAR. It ain’t where you start! Here they are, covering “Cater 2 U” by Destiny’s Child which was produced by Darkchild.

I know it’s popular to make jokes about Mary J. Blige for engagement because going viral is everyone’s end game anymore. But, for the record, The Queen is still The Queen: There was zero bullshit on the #ForMyFansTour last night in AC. MJB delivered in every way. 👑 💎

Unless you’re the Traci Braxton of your family, you’ll never know what that kinda pain feels like. There’s quite literally nothing worse than feeling like the forgotten one and then made fun of for expressing it or judged for simply wanting to belong. #TheBraxtons #RIPTraci

It’s funny how folks like to rewrite history. Dawn Richard was literally the only member of Danity Kane not fired. We saw it happen. D*ddy let everyone outta their contracts except her. She cried and told Que she was “worn out”. She clearly didn’t wanna be there. Many of us watched that final season of Making The Band 4 when only Aundrea & Dawn showed up, due to contractual obligations. Most of you don’t even know D*ddy bought Dawn’s original contract from a smaller label for her to be in Danity Kane. So, she felt indebted which she has always said. However, indebted does not mean ABUSE. Dawn didn’t own her name. She didn’t own her voice. She wasn’t getting outta her contract. So YES, after Danity Kane it was Dirty Money or sit your ass on the shelf and STARVE. Y’all hate Black women and it shows daily. #DawnRichard #DiddyTrial #DanityKane

I’ll never understand why Olivia didn’t happen. J Records, G-Unit, LHHNY. Aside from her piss poor manager Rich Dollaz, she just didn’t connect [lack of personality/originality] But she was never without talent. “Twist It” dropped in 2005 & 106 & Park KEPT it in rotation. #TBT

IDK BRO. I’m starting to get the vibe Terry over there running En Vogue like this. Because why everyone keep leaving on fucked up terms? Rhona is extremely unproblematic and Dawn Robinson herself has said she felt “pushed out”. Crazy don’t mean dishonest. It’s Giving:

The story of I-15 is just sad. Signed to Polow Da Don via Zone 4/Interscope, I-15 had a A LOT of promise. We had a Black boy band that was rapping, singing, dancing, and had a sound that stood out from anything on radio. They were often called a “male TLC”. “Lost In Love” received heavy play on several music stations in 2007 from MTV Hits, 106 & Park, MTV Jams, and VH1 Soul. After “Lost In Love” and featuring on “Soulja Girl”, they vanished. From what I know, the album was completed and came out fire, but was shelved. JR Castro ended up dropping his debut album 10 years later called ‘Sexpectations Vol. 1’ and allegedly, the members were still under contract with Polow [like Keri Hilson for example until recently]. Shout out to Castro, Das, & Flash for making one unforgettable record. “Lost In Love” is still in constant rotation over here. I-15 deserved more. #TBT

I lost my mind when Mary broke out with “Enough Cryin’”. There’s something about that song that always feels like the first time. DARKCHILD was definitely in 3005 when he produced that. The energy when she does it live just hits different. #ForMyFansTour Mary J. Blige 💎👑 #MJB
