The Magic Whip 10th Anniversary. To celebrate, a special vinyl edition of the album featuring brand new artwork and a five-piece capsule collection are being released on 25th April 2025. Includes, a green bomber jacket, red t-shirt, tote bag, ice cream pin badge and a Mr Ok umbrella. Visual artist Tony Hung has reimagined the album’s original artwork to create a special new red and gold album cover. With added foil embossed details, the new artwork edition vinyl is available as a half-speed mastered, single gold disc for the first time. "My reworking for the anniversary edition was inspired by a deep dive into the album’s lyrics. Here, I found more intensity, anxiety and a dystopian edge, all of which I wanted to convey in the new edition. Upturned, the now spoilt ice cream brought a heavier tone, whilst the cone suggested a tower-like structure. The idea of an active broadcast tower, soaring above the clouds felt oppressive and menacing, suitably setting the scene. The final cover art was achieved by juxtaposing the above with the vibrant aesthetic and colours associated with ‘lai see' (lucky money) envelopes; a traditional Chinese gesture, where said envelopes are gifted to loved ones during special occasions such as the lunar new year, birthdays, anniversaries etc. Perfectly befitting The Magic Whip's 10th anniversary, wherein our package contains the gift of music.” - Tony Hung On 12th April, a limited-edition, zoetrope picture disc edition of The Magic Whip will be exclusively available in independent record stores for Record Store Day 2025. Tony Hung, designer of The Magic Whip artwork discussed his creative process with Creative Review in 2015.🍦🌃 "The album title 'The Magic Whip' was multifaceted, an ice cream in the UK, a firework in China and a 'whip' in a political sense. These extremes would reflect the different textures, breadth and depth of the album. The idea of a neon ice cream came to me around 5am the following morning after hearing the album for the first time, it was quickly visualised for presentation at a scheduled meeting with the band later that morning. The image: A sweet, daytime, English, summer product found in pastel shades, evoking visions of blue skies and green parks ... now transformed into a buzzing neon sign, rendered in hard lines and electric hues, found on any busy street in Mong Kok on a dark night. Melting ice cream provided a melancholic twist. Damon read the dripped ice cream as a cloud, with a silver lining. Although unintentional, its a great additional meaning."
