Exactly one year ago, I completed a fundraising campaign to cover my programme fees at Future London Academy. I needed £8,000 in 30 days. I had raised £26,500 myself. Huge shoutouts to Adésóyè FourthCanvas and a community of people I will never forget came who through and closed the gap last minute. That moment changed everything. To every single person who donated from the largest contribution to the ones who gave what they could, please hear me when I say there was no small donation. Every one of them got me here. To everyone who shared the video, left a comment, sent a DM of encouragement, reposted without being asked, you carried this as much as anyone who gave money. I was selected for this programme, I sat in rooms with leaders from different countries and continents. I added the Nigerian and African perspective to conversations shaping the future of design leadership. I always knew there was more than being a local champion, but living it is something else entirely. I’m graduating in a few days. Full circle. Everything I’ve learned, I’m bringing home. You’ve probably heard, I graduated from Future London Academy’s Executive Program for Design Leaders on friday. The design MBA challenged everything I thought I knew. Before this, I thought a mainstream MBA was all I needed to fuel this insane amount of curiosity I daily brewed on what it meant to be a business-minded designer but after doing it, I realized it wasn’t. I could say beyond a doubt that this was all I needed to move to the next phase of my career. From the first day I stepped into the programme in London, which also happened to be my first time out of Nigeria, I knew I had met a new family. A family of teachers, delegates and staff who opened up their arms to me and never got tired of my questions 😀. The learnings, friends, family and experiences will stay with me forever. It felt like I had travelled to all 18 countries represented in my cohort, experiencing their world through their lenses. I wish I could go into all the stories, but not today 🫣. Thank you Ekaterina Solomeina, DLX Mohammed Saiful Hussain, DLX for this incredible and thoughtful design of the programme and for connecting me with a new international family. The future is much clearer, with a new level of audacity unlocked in me along with a new level of responsibility for being an internationally recognized design leader. We’ve raised over 75% of the £35k tuition. But I’ll lose my spot if we don’t raise the final £6k in 14 days. This is hard to ask, but I need your help. And there’s not much time left. Last year, I was accepted into Future London Academy. One of the most respected design leadership programs in the world. I deferred my spot to raise the tuition fee of £35,000.
