Yesterday I preached on Judges 20 and its relevance to Charlie’s martyrdom and the public support for his killing made by a substantial portion of our society. In Judges 20, after the men of Gibeah ravished the wife of a traveling Levite to death, all of Israel was mustered to wipe out this city. But the tribe of Benjamin refused and instead came to the defense of their kinsmen. Israel went to war and eradicated the entire tribe with only a few survivors to purge the evil from their midst. The support for political violence cannot be tolerated. All the institutions, mechanisms, and organizations fomenting it must be shut down and all those who support it must be ostracized from civil society.
