Steve McManaman left Liverpool on a sour note and for free, despite Liverpool accepting a £16m bid from Barcelona a year earlier, but the move fell through. He went on to become an instant success at Real Madrid, winning big games and scoring some memorable goals. Yet he never seemed fully appreciated by the Madrid fanbase, and eventually David Beckham arrived as his replacement. For me, McManaman was world class in his prime. A continental style English player before it was fashionable. Elegant on the ball, a superb carrier, creator, and scorer. One of the most aesthetically pleasing footballers of his era. Here is him dominating the UCL final in 2000!

Harry Kewell felt like a "galactico" signing. He had rejected lucrative offers from Milan, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona, to move to the club he supported as a boy. He was one of the most gifted players, won the PFA young player of the year. He did have his moments but unfortunately a rare bacterial septic arthritis infection robbed us of an all time great. This is him scoring some scorchers from Leeds days!
