bold idea: politics is misery; therefore, making everything political makes everyone miserable. this is the bleakness of totalitarian and collectivist systems. it's a focus on division, a focus on shaking the jar until the bugs fight so that some narcissistic sociopath can play at being king of the ants. you want to understand why so many seem so unhappy? that's why. we are not meant to live like that. it's intolerable. it did not used to be like this. is does not have to be like this now. back in the 90's, politics was sort of a dull quacking sound you occasionally paid attention to. the state was not intruding into every basic aspect of your life from food to sex to free association and what kind of fricking straw you used and whether your matcha was fair trade. you don't hate the UK. you hate their politicians. they don't hate america. they hate our politicians. there is nothing exotic or difficult here guys. we share a culture, a commonality, and we can share a joy if we simply remember who the real bad guys are and thereby rediscover the commonality with our friends. stop letting maladjusted lunatics tell you how things are in a world you are not touching. go find out for yourself. you might find it's pretty fricking good.

NYC has got to be some kind of all time record for going from "piles of socialist promises for free stuff" to "we need you in the work gangs because our infrastructure is borked." (bonus points for needing ID to sign up to shovel snow, but not to vote.)

this is breathtaking. essentially: "no, there is no meaningful fraud in minnesota daycare. it's all a GOP psyop because they are racist." imagine what it takes to inhabit that world. it's an astonishing level of reality denial. i honestly cannot tell if this is just a pure "i want my money so you need to let them steal" mendacity in self-service of self-interest or if it's full blown cognitive dissonance/cope/suicidal empathicization causing actual perceptive fracture where a brainwiped mind protects its illusions by making up fabulist narratives, but in the end, it's kind of irrelevant. whether she is lying to herself or to us does not matter. only the fact of the lie does. these are the people who will, with desperate avidity, accuse you of "misinformation." and as you can see, the last thing in the world that anyone should want is to silence them. give them a soap box. give them a megaphone. let them speak, make sure that everyone hears them, and take good notes. honestly, the most difficult part of convincing the center of the magnitude of the problem here and the depth of the rot it getting them to believe just how far gone and outright bonkers these "activists" are, how divorced from reality, how barking mad. it seems impossible, like some sort of overblown pastiche until you actually hear it first hand. i'm sure many of you have had this experience. you try to explain this to someone and they push back with "no way. that's ridiculous. no one is actually like that. no one says that." then you show them and they say "damn. wow. huh." and minds change. people realize where we are. this is why social media and the age of primary source material is so powerful. it takes us past hearsay and into evidence. there is no possible way to indict these people and their smug, deluded ideas and hallucinatory worldview that would exceed the efficacy of their own words. and they have no idea that they are doing it. they literally cannot help themselves. the cure for stupid speech is more listeners. so let them speak. encourage them to speak, loudly and often. my understanding is that this video dates back to 2023-4. it's an HHS staffer testifying before congress. it now seems clear that the biden administration was allowing 100's of thousands of undocumented and unaccompanied minors into the US and sending them to "sponsor families." based on this testimony, they set up a hotline for these kids to report mistreatment, abuse, rape, etc. it had 65,000 unanswered calls because only one staffer was assigned to answer the phone. to describe that as "woefully negligent" seems a hopeless understatement. i simply cannot believe that someone, not even the government, could make a mistake that glaring and allow it to keep going on for years by accident. these folks can staff a trans teen hotline like the normandy invasion. this was a choice. several questions cannot help but arise from this, including "so why was this not a bigger deal at the time?" but i'd like to step back and ask a couple of different questions: 1. what is the non-sinister explanation for this? how could this be some sort of "well intentioned mistake" as opposed to something much darker? if there is one or is some aspect i'm missing, i'd honestly like to hear it. 2. where were these children even coming from? who were they? where were their parents? how did they get to and cross the border? those crossings are no place for unaccompanied kids. who brought them there? were they willing or were they coerced? that second question seems like one that has gotten worryingly short shrift. it makes me suspect there was something organized behind this, something that really needs to be dragged out into the light.
