#Pakistan's future must be decided by its people. It's clear that #PTI is Pakistan's most popular party. I disagree with #ImranKhan on many things, but it's the right of Pakistan's people to choose their leader. I urged Asst Sec Lu to have our ambassador visit Khan in jail.

At today's House Foreign Affairs Committee Dems hearing, I once again urged the State Department to direct the acting U.S. Ambassador in Pakistan to visit Imran Khan in jail to observe his safety and wellbeing. I also reiterated that America must work to free Dr. Shakil Afridi, who continues to be imprisoned for helping the United States kill Osama bin Laden.

The #Eritrean people will not have freedom and Eritrea's neighbors won't have peace until #Eritrea has a democratic govt instead of one that oppresses its citizens and neighbors. The U.S. must support the Eritrean people in their fight for a free Eritrea.

I joined PBS PBS News for a debate with former Obama Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman over the proposed U.S.-Saudi nuclear agreement. I explained why Congress must act to prevent Saudi Arabia from gaining the ability to develop a nuclear weapon. Watch our debate ⤵️

Today I joined thousands in LA to stand with the people of #Iran in their struggle against the Ayatollah’s brutal regime. Brave #Iranians continue to demonstrate – despite the murder of thousands of protesters – risking everything for freedom, human rights & a democratic future.

It's critical that aid diversion end immediately & humanitarian assistance resume as soon as possible to #Tigray. Pleased to hear from Samantha Power that the U.S. will not reward #Ethiopia with AGOA restoration until humanitarian aid gets to its intended recipients unencumbered.

I received a committment from Secretary Antony Blinken that the admin. will work to ensure that the $9 billion in humanitarian aid provided by Congress will be allocated based on where there's the most urgent need - #Tigray #Rohingya #Artsakh #Sudan - rather than the most publicity. Watch ⬇️

It’s been a year since the Cessation of Hostilities in #Ethiopia, yet #Eritrean troops are still in #Tigray where they have committed crimes against humanity. Time's up - the U.S. should directly sanction Eritrea’s dictator Isaias Afwerki. See my remarks at today's hearing ⬇️

The Trump Administration’s reckless decision to sell advanced AI chips to China — after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang donated to Trump’s White House ballroom and attended a $1-million-a-head dinner — puts one company’s bottom line over U.S. national security and AI leadership. We need to monitor AI to detect and prevent self-awareness and ambition. China is not the only threat. See the recent bestseller: "If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies: Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All."

We have seen a terrible civil war in #Ethiopia, particularly in the #Tigray region. Although a peace deal has been signed, it has not been implemented. I spoke before the House Appropriations Committee on the need to ensure that the #Tigrayan people actually receive U.S. aid.

#Tigrayan civilians continue to face a brutal ethnic cleansing campaign by Amhara militias according to @HRW's recent report. The U.S. must take swift and decisive action to sanction those responsible, as I told Secretary Yellen at today’s FSC hearing.

#Ethiopia and #Sudan are the most dire human rights catastrophes this decade, yet don’t receive the attention they deserve from the international community. Watch my remarks at this week's House Foreign Affairs Committee Dems #Africa hearing calling for urgent action in #Tigray & Sudan ⬇️

Each year, a thousand girls from #Pakistan's religious minority communities are abducted & converted. The U.S. must work towards an end to this practice & there is no better place to start than achieving justice in the case of Priya Kumari, who was only 9 when she was abducted.
