One thing Lane Johnson emphasized that young tackles often miss: Pass protection is not just getting into your set. It is route concepts, QB depth, defensive copy, set lines and staying choreographed with the players around you. Really good teaching section here from our Pass Pro Lab conversation.

New on Substack: PASS PRO LAB with Chiefs LT Josh Simmons. We studied his rookie tape, pass-pro problem solving and current & former elite LTs like Tunsil, Bolles, Peters, Armstead and Bakhtiari. Spencer Brown was lights out yesterday against the Broncos with several impact blocks. He has been a personal protector for Allen scrambling right all season, a weapon in the screen game and dialed in on an island using a potent snatch-trap technique and effective change-ups.
