Residents living around Masinga Dam have raised concerns over what they say is severe contamination of the dam’s water, allegedly caused by industrial and sewage waste discharged upstream from Kirinyaga County. According to residents, the water has become unsafe for domestic use and is reportedly unsuitable even for livestock. They claim the contamination has already affected a significant section of the dam, extending from the Tana River Bridge along the Nairobi–Meru Road and downstream.
