Playing long games with friends is one of life's great cheat codes. My friend Alec Cutter's dream was to become a filmmaker and tell stories about football that have never reached the masses. Years ago, he pitched me on Várzea: the underground football league in the favelas of São Paulo that birthed countless Brazilian stars. He spent months building the trust required to earn the privilege to bring his camera into these communities and tell a story he was convinced would one day end up on a platform like Netflix. ...he was right! On June 20th, Alec's self-proclaimed "love letter to Brazilian football" will premiere globally on Netflix. I’m grateful I got to play a small part in helping Alec make his dream a reality.
