So this police officer stops my friend, claiming it’s an offence not to wear a reflector — in broad daylight even though my friend was in full reflective gear. Then, the officer takes his bike and rides off… No helmet. No gloves. Makes an illegal U-turn. Rides on the footpath. Reckless all the way. Let’s not forget he’s riding a bike that doesn’t even belong to him. Now here’s the real question: How do you enforce rules that you yourself don’t follow? We’re not against the law we’re against the abuse of it. We ride with respect. We expect the same.

I shared this on NTV, and I truly meant it my goal is to start with the bikers on my daily route. There is a big difference between watu wa nduthi and goons. Sisi kama watu wa bike, we do not support or associate with goons. They pretend to be riders, yet we are out here trying to make an honest living and move the economy forward. Their actions are what make the police and the public look at all bikers differently, and that is unfair. Real riders work hard, respect the road, and respect people. We should not be judged by those who misuse the bike to cause harm.

"On my way home, I met an incredible young man, a student with a determination that truly moved me. At the time, I didn’t realize he was a student, but as we spoke, he shared his story with me. Every day, he walks nearly 11 kilometers—from somewhere near Kibera all the way to Rongai Ngori—just to reach a place offering free tuition. Rather than spending the two-month school holiday at home, he made the choice to get ahead on next term’s syllabus. Such wisdom and drive from a Form Two student are rare, and it’s inspiring to see this dedication in someone so young. He’s going through a lot too. His parents recently relocated upcountry, and he now lives with his grandmother, who has taken on the role of the family’s breadwinner. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to his studies, driven by a desire to make the most of this free opportunity. He told me he sees this time as a chance to prepare and build a stronger foundation for his future. If anyone in the community who travels along this route could offer him a ride—from the SGR area to Langata and back—it would be an incredible help to him. The time he saves could go into more hours of study and rest, bringing him one step closer to his dreams. May blessings be upon anyone who can support this dedicated young soul.
