I did not become a Labour member to impoverish vulnerable people. The proposed cuts to welfare should be rejected and the government should focus on improving people's living standards and creating a society that looks after people.

It’s simple. If the Grangemouth refinery closes and Project Willow recommendations aren’t ready then it’s an unjust transition. If this happens then it’s certainly not a credible industrial strategy from the government.

If the Grangemouth refinery closes then this will be felt by local businesses. I will take up the Minister’s offer of a meeting to tell him in no uncertain terms that if the refinery does close then the consequences will be dire. Grangemouth needs UK Gov support, not just words.

Parliament has been recalled. Hopefully to nationalise British Steel and take it under government control. The same should happen to the Grangemouth oil refinery. The government should control essential industries.

Today at PMQ’s I said what I’ve always said. That the government should intervene to save jobs at the Grangemouth refinery, protect Scotland and build Grangemouth for the future. My constituents, their communities and all of Scotland want that to happen.
