Plenty of people out walking along the Chunxi Pedestrian Street - a popular shopping area in Chengdu. Very few actual shoppers. If you listen closely, you’ll hear clapping coming from several directions. Store attendants trying to get people’s attention while standing outside their shops. This is partly because many mainland shoppers have opted to just buy things online but also because the consumer isn’t in such a spending mood these days.

It even has a couple of hotels and a man-made beach inside. But when you build something this immense, the more it looks deserted when foot traffic weakens for any reason. I wonder how these shops make money.
