We are very excited to announce the recent birth of a Przewalski’s horse foal! Also known as Mongolian wild horses, this species was once extinct in the wild, but populations from several sources, including zoo-bred animals, were reintroduced in China in 1989 & Mongolia in 1992.

Pygmy slow loris baby update! Here’s an adorable #MomentOfZoo featuring mom and infant “hanging” out in our newest exhibit, World of Darkness. Slow lorises are born fully furred with their eyes open and reach a maximum adult weight of about one pound. (1/3)

The weather may be unpredictable this time of year, but take a tip from this tiger & get outside & explore! Amur tigers are adapted to the cold & snow & can thrive in temps as low as -40°F. They have thicker fur than other tigers, & more body fat, which acts as insulation.(1/2)

Some of our American flamingos return to the Children's Zoo marsh every spring after spending the winter in their heated off-exhibit area. Skill and care are required to carry a flamingo as their long legs and broad wingspan make handling them tricky. (1/3)

Our giraffes utilize specialized puzzle feeders as part of our comprehensive enrichment program. These devices are designed to stimulate natural foraging behaviors, requiring the animals to employ their long, prehensile tongues to investigate and retrieve food items. (1/2)

We’ve got two new babies on board! One of the recent additions to our squirrel monkey troop was born on Father’s Day, and the other over Fourth of July weekend. The young primates are on exhibit, but will stay quite close to their mothers for several weeks. (1/3)

Our first bison calf of the season is doing great! Currently weighing around 60 lbs, the calf is tiny compared to the adults, who weigh between 1500—2200 lbs for a male and 900—1200 lbs for an adult female. She is settling in well with the herd while staying close to mom.
