COLLISION AT PANATAG SHOAL: WHEN THE CHASE TURNS ON THE CHASER | On August 11, 2025, China Coast Guard vessel 3104, in pursuit of the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) during a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to 35 Filipino fishing boats, collided with People’s Liberation Army Navy warship 164 just 10.5 nautical miles east of Bajo de Masinloc. The CCG’s forecastle was left severely damaged and the vessel unseaworthy. The Philippine mission — part of the Kadiwa Para sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda program — continued, delivering food, fuel, and supplies, even as the PCG extended assistance to the very ship that had pursued them.
