A rare female pygmy hippo born at Berlin Zoo has been named Brötchen, the German word for “bread roll.” The calf, born on May 9, recently enjoyed her first outdoor bath under the watchful eye of her mother, Debbie. Zoo footage showed Brötchen wiggling her ears as she explored the water for the first time. At her latest weigh-in, Brötchen tipped the scales at 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds, nearly double her birth weight. The zoo said she is developing well and steadily gaining weight.
