Rep. Brandon Gill repeatedly pressed the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History director on whether selling “Latina Power” merchandise was appropriate. The exchange came during a House subcommittee hearing examining allegations that the Smithsonian presents a politicized view of U.S. history. The hearing followed a July 4 White House report criticizing the museum’s exhibits and programming. #smithsonian #congress #brandonGill #ushistory

Norway fans are bringing Viking energy to the World Cup. The Norwegian men’s national football team is returning to the tournament for the first time in 28 years, and supporters have been celebrating with a “rowing” chant performed in unison — a stadium gesture inspired by Viking imagery. The team has leaned into that theme ahead of the 2026 World Cup, recently releasing a Viking-inspired photoshoot featuring players in historical-style clothing, holding shields and swords beside longboats on a rugged coastal backdrop. The images, photographed by David Yarrow, were intended as a tribute to Norway’s heritage, though they have also sparked debate online over the use of Viking symbolism. For fans, the “row” chant has become part of the moment: Norway is back on football’s biggest stage, and the Viking roar is already following them there. #norway #worldcup #worldcup2026 #norwayfootball #vikingchant #footballfans #haaland #odegaard Video credit: @hypeboynorway via TikTok

A rare female pygmy hippo born at Berlin Zoo has been named Brötchen, the German word for “bread roll.” The calf, born on May 9, recently enjoyed her first outdoor bath under the watchful eye of her mother, Debbie. Zoo footage showed Brötchen wiggling her ears as she explored the water for the first time. At her latest weigh-in, Brötchen tipped the scales at 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds, nearly double her birth weight. The zoo said she is developing well and steadily gaining weight. Pygmy hippos are typically solitary animals, and Debbie will raise the calf on her own. The endangered species is native to the forests and wetlands of West Africa. #pygmyhippo #berlinzoo #babyanimals #wildlife #conservation

Jordan made history as thousands of fans packed Amman’s ancient Roman Theatre to watch Al-Nashama compete in their first-ever FIFA World Cup. Jordan secured its place at the 2026 tournament after defeating Oman 3-0 in qualifying, ending a 40-year pursuit that began with the country’s first qualification campaign. The national team, whose nickname means “The Brave Ones,” opened its World Cup campaign against Austria. Jordan’s prime minister joined supporters at the public viewing in downtown Amman, where the match was shown on a giant screen. The venue added another layer of history to the occasion: the nearly 2,000-year-old theatre dates to the Roman era, when Amman was known as Philadelphia, and was built to hold roughly 6,000 spectators. A landmark once used for public gatherings, culture and entertainment became a national stage again as Jordanians united behind their team’s historic World Cup debut. #jordan #worldcup2026 #alnashama #amman #footballfans Video credit: Visit Jordan Makana 360 with permission
