My new album The Secret Language of Trees is out now Available here: Last night was the end of a 15th (can’t believe it) cycle. The night before an album release (and Volume 7 of This Binary Universe). It was with unspeakable joy I spent last night with friends, fans and peers blindfolded listening to The Secret Language of Trees. The questions and conversations were thrilling, thoughtful and insightful. It was wonderful. This morning woke up and TSLOT had hit the #1 electronic album spot on iTunes. To say I’m grateful that you guys have supported me in all these years of exploration and music making, is just - not enough. I legit love you guys and will never have the words to express my gratitude. Thank you for the gift of your time, attention and listening, it’s profoundly appreciated. I hope this music accompanies you on beautiful new adventures and inspires some amazing new things in your life. I’ll thank you the only way I know how, with more music.

The creation process. What is the experience of it actually like? I’ve spent tens of thousands of hours of my life, in a room, alone, listening, practicing, designing, sculpting, learning and creating. One of the things that is a non-obvious omnipresent element is YOU. More specifically your internal voice and dialogue. There’s a word you may have read past above “alone”. How can you really be alone if the internal dialogue bundle of life experience, emotion, memory construct “you” is there talking to YOU? Weird hunh? When we are creating, many of us are frequently accompanied solely by our internal dialogue. For someone that has had quite a wild ride of life experiences, and like most of us - my internal dialogue can frequently be negative, unkind, lacking grace, judgmental and many other non-desirable things. (The incredible) Dr. Amon calls this “ANTS” or Autonomic Negative Thinking. My understanding is about 85% of our thoughts are negative and our minds are wired to look for negative as a survival strategy in the oldest centers of our brain. Clever design. Great for watching for alpha predators like dinosaurs and not that great for being still and making meaningful music. Because of this, I’ve devoted much of my life to learning to self regulate, calm my central nervous system, subvert amygdala hijackings and (with patience) work with my internal dialogue. For people who create in an insular fashion I believe this is a critical skill for a happy and fulfilling life. How do you work with your thoughts and self regulate while you create?
