INTERNATIONAL RETAILER HITS SA MALLS Malaysian retail giant MR DIY has officially entered the South African market, opening stores in Pretoria’s Menlyn Mall and Irene Village. With nearly 5,000 outlets across Asia and Europe, this marks its first African expansion. STORE NUMBER 1,000 FOR CLICKS Clicks Group has celebrated a symbolic 1,000-store milestone with a new flagship outlet in Johannesburg. This achievement means over half of South Africa's populace now lives within five kilometres of a Clicks pharmacy, cementing its market leadership and accessibility. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 1/ The Clicks Group, led by CEO Bertina Engelbrecht, is listed on the JSE and boasts a market capitalisation exceeding R81-billion. 2/ The company began as a single retail store in Cape Town in August 1968. 3/ Now more than 50% of South Africa’s population currently resides within five kilometres of a Clicks pharmacy. 4/ The flagship loyalty programme, ClubCard, is South Africa’s largest retail scheme, with 12 million members, and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. 5/ The retailer operates not only across South Africa but also has a presence in Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, and Lesotho. 6/ Each new store opening, such as the 1,000th outlet, typically creates approximately 20 permanent in-store jobs, alongside five indirect support roles. 7/ Clicks intends to add another 200 stores over the medium term, pushing toward a 1,200-store network while continuing its aggressive pharmacy densification strategy that has already delivered more than 780 in-store dispensaries.
