How to play with pace with a non-shooting big trailing: Flare the top defender loading up toward the ball & make it difficult for the defenders behind the flare to stunt at the shooter w/o opening up a corner 3PA. Also, jumbo lineup of Siakam-Obi-Zu creates mismatch for Siakam.

Hey guys, myself & Samson Folk (the coach) answered a bunch of questions about the Pacers - Zu/Oubre vs. Turner/Mathurin - Tyrese's progress - allowing fewer paint points - biggest reasons for optimism - changes for Siakam - play-call gamesmanship let's mailbag!

NYK scored 1.727 points per possession with these two on the court in G4. Alvarado just kept screening and moving when Wemby was "guarding" him in the 4Q.

Fun fact: Tyrese Haliburton prefers to pull-up going to his right even though he is a right-handed shooter. Hand-tracked his pull-up jumper (not step-backs, spins, or runners - straight jumpers) inside the arc Left: 5-7 Right: 22-44 Never forced him away from his dominant hand

on a personal level, think it says a lot about zach lowe that, in addition to inspiring a slew of writers, he was willing to use his platform like this. very grateful and look forward to wherever he lands next that invests in basketball being central to basketball coverage

Wemby had 52 touches in G2 that never touched the paint - his most in a playoff game this season. OG scrams Brunson out of the transition cross-match. Wemby launces a three. Spurs don't hard crash, even though Wemby is ATB to get back as a backstop.

With a one-point lead and 20 seconds left to play in OT, the Pacers went to a SLOB play that ended up spacing both of their stars out to the logo to create an empty-side 3v3 opportunity. What a cool team.

Noticed that more teams have started shifting inbound responsibilities to perimeter players with the big filling to the opposite wing instead of rim running. Oftentimes forces a guard to protect the rim while putting the defensive big into unnatural weak-side rotations.

This was beautiful. Too bad the better effort ends in another loss.

Hey guys, I talked to Rick Carlisle about the Pacers playing random - drawing influence from jazz - implementing this style in 2025 vs 2011 - why the NBA is running less PnR - do all teams play the same? - Siakam, always adapting this is meaningful

Castle led the Spurs in half-court matchups defending KAT in G3 (16). KAT only attempted 1 shot. Some of that was doubling w/ a roaming C. Some of that was late-switching against the PnP. Some of that was shot-selection from other Knicks. Something for both teams to think about

Crowning this the NBA's trendiest action sequence this season: down-flip-flare. Call from the Pacers is "touch." Exemplifies the PASS > DRIBBLE revival. Also shows why, even when MIN, IND, CHA, TOR, UTA, & countless other teams run the same play, they don't all play the same.

Hey guys, myself & Samson Folk (the coach) talked about the Pacers putting a twist on playing inside-out - Tyrese inside? (mid-range, driving angles, bully ball) - Zu outside? (spacing to the corner, skip concepts) - What to expect from Tyrese 2.0 - More! 😂

Esfandiar Baraheni This is the most dribbles he has ever taken (24!) on a zero-pass possession before taking a shot in the playoffs. The Raptors have been disorienting on defense, but he has also been baffling with his process on offense.

Hey guys, myself & Samson Folk (the coach) previewed the season by picking one micro-skill or macro-concept to watch for every Pacers starter - pacing - toggling responsibilities - FT mechanics - high(er) wall defense - rebound landings/outlets we're back! (for now)

Andrew Nembhard has mastered the art of stealing the opening tip to such an extent that teams started game-planning for his gamesmanship in the playoffs. Allow me to explain. Link in 🧵

Watch some of these tactics and oftentimes think "that wouldn't/didn't work against Tyrese" and then I get sad again.

I got asked about the most difficult actions or play-types to defend in the NBA. So, naturally, I wrote about why guarding a simple running pattern can be just so darn complex On how teams are crossing up opponents by crossing low in transition 🔗
