.Coach Tommy Tuberville, Congressman Randy Fine and Chip Roy are not protecting the Constitution; they are betraying it. Manufacturing panic about Islam and American Muslims does nothing to defend our democracy; it only erodes it. These unconstitutional proposals exist not to solve any real problem, but to sow fear – to make Americans talk fearfully about Muslims and their beliefs rather than listen to what Muslims are saying about Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its apartheid in the West Bank. This ‘Israel-first’ fear campaign is meant to distract the public from mass atrocities abroad by scapegoating Muslims at home. But it will fail. Sharia is not a foreign legal system to be banned, it is a moral and spiritual path that calls on American Muslims to pray, give charity, treat others honestly, and stand up for what is right. In practice, it teaches humanity integrity, compassion, and service. Trying to ban ‘Sharia’ would be no different than banning Jewish halacha or Catholic canon law, it is a direct assault on religious freedom itself. Congress must defend the right of every faith community to live free from government suspicion or coercion. The path forward is simple: replace fear with understanding, hate with engagement, and ensure that religious liberty remains a promise kept for all.

Just weeks after anti-Muslim extremists murdered three people at the Islamic Center of San Diego, Speaker Mike Johnson is inciting anti-Muslim hate using some of the same talking points the shooters used in their manifesto. When American Muslims pray five times a day, fast in Ramadan, and give in charity, they are following the rules of sharia, which is analogous to halacha in Judaism and canon law in Catholicism. The idea that American Muslims following the rules of their faith pose a threat to American culture is a hateful remark that Speaker Johnson would never tolerate or express regarding Jewish or Christian Americans. We urge Speaker Johnson to apologize for this false and dangerous implication.

Pro-Israel leader Ezra Weinblatt has been arrested for allegedly attacking anti-war protesters outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, hitting one woman in the face and destroying the demonstrators' audio equipment. Law enforcement should consider hate crime charges against Mr. Weinblatt. If reports that Mr. Weinblatt is a board member with JCRC of Greater DC are accurate, the group should renounce both his alleged conduct and the anti-Palestinian extremism that contributes to such criminal behavior. The wave of violence and discrimination that has been unleashed against Americans peacefully advocating for Palestinian human rights has been dismissed and downplayed for far too long, and must come to an end.

Watch this footage of masked ICE agents wearing street clothes stalking, surrounding, grabbing and abducting Tufts University PhD student Rumeysa Ozturk outside her home in broad daylight. Her crime? Apparently writing a editorial in her student newspaper criticizing the genocide in Gaza. We strongly condemn the Trump administration for turning U.S. immigration agents into thought police who are abducting students off of American city streets for the benefit of the Israeli government. Americans nationwide must recognize the dangerous precedent being set by the fascist thought police of this Israel First administration. The federal government is disappearing and then trying to deport students legally present here solely because of their peaceful political speech. This is un-American and unconstitutional. As the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard is responsible for gathering, analyzing and presenting factual information to policymakers so that they can protect the American people. The last person who should serve in this critical, apolitical role is a bigoted conspiracy theorist who spreads hate against the American people. Tulsi Gabbard's rant against the American Muslim community and ‘Islamic principles’ over the weekend was delusional and disqualifying. If DNI Gabbard truly believes that American Muslims are on the verge of imposing "sharia law" on Paterson, New Jersey, or Houston, Texas, she is completely detached from reality and has no business serving as the Director of National Intelligence. And if Ms. Gabbard spewed these anti-Muslim conspiracy theories knowing they were false, then her dishonesty also disqualifies her from overseeing our nation's intelligence collection. Sadly, DNI Tulsi Gabbard has a long history of expressing a thinly-veiled hostility toward Islam and Muslims under the guise of opposing ‘Islamism,’ which is why she happily met with Bashar Al-Assad and Narendra Modi, men who used the specter of a Muslim boogeyman to justify discrimination and violence against their Muslim populations. Tulsi Gabbard should apologize and retract her remarks or resign, and all elected officials should speak out against her unacceptable, deranged bigotry.

For years, a group of Texas Muslims have met once a month for breakfast at a public park in Austin after performing the dawn prayer at a local mosque. Normally, this quiet event is uneventful. This week, an anti-Muslim extremist wearing a Crusader outfit showed up with a bullhorn in an attempt to harass and intimidate them into leaving. He failed. This hate is what Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Senator John Cornyn and other Israel First politicians have unleashed on Texas to distract the American people and silence critics of Israel, especially American Muslims. But the Texas Muslim community is not going anywhere. They will continue to pray, fellowship, and participate in public life just like their Christian, Jewish and other neighbors, God willing.

"We are not backing down." That was the message CAIR Florida and local community partners delivered to Ron DeSantis at multiple press conferences across the state today. We applaud the other civil rights groups, community leaders and interfaith partners standing in solidarity with CAIR-Florida and the Florida Muslim community. We also thank Florida law enforcement for providing security for these events. Israel First politicians and anti-Muslim bigots like Ron DeSantis are increasingly desperate to shred the First Amendment so that they can silence Americans, especially American Muslims, who speak out against the Israeli government's war crimes. CAIR-Florida and our broader organization have spent years protecting free speech, advancing religious freedom, and pursuing justice for all people in the court of law and the court of public opinion. We will continue to do so loudly and forcefully, God willing.

We commend Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (Azeez Al-shaair) for using his platform to express opposition to genocide during last night’s primetime football game. Like Muhammad Ali and other athletes of conscience, he used his platform for a cause of justice. We applaud him and encourage others to follow suit in standing up for human rights, from Gaza to Sudan and elsewhere.

We applaud EPIC and members of the Plano Muslim community for the discipline and patience they have shown in advance of this hate rally. The fact that the mosque is carrying on with its weekend food drive for the general public as usual is a testament to this house of worship and the positive role it plays in supporting its neighbors of all faiths. We commend local law enforcement for working with the community to keep the community safe. We encourage all elected officials to condemn the anti-Muslim extremism that Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton and others have fomented. We urge all community members to follow the instructions of EPIC leadership and law enforcement authorities, ignore the provocations of these racist and bigoted losers and carry on with their worship and lives as usual.

We want to take a moment to applaud the courage of our CAIR-Texas team. The very next day after Governor Greg Abbott issued his unconstitutional and defamatory proclamation, the CAIR-Texas team went to work as usual while signing off on a federal lawsuit and preparing to testify at a state Board of Education hearing in defense of student rights. Before that hearing started, security warned members of our CAIR-Texas team that a suspicious individual had entered the building and demanded to know if any CAIR leaders were present. While this man was searching for our staff, the CAIR-Texas team was given the option of leaving the building with a police escort. They declined. Each of them stayed and delivered their testimony. As a civil rights organization, CAIR was founded to both shield the American Muslim community from hate and protect every American's right to exercise free speech, practice their own faith, and speak up for justice here and abroad. Being a shield means taking arrows. CAIR-Texas has been a shining example of courage under fire and an inspiration to our entire organization, alhamdulillah (praise and thanks to God). We applaud them, we stand with them, and we encourage all Americans to continue speaking up for due process, free speech, and religious freedom in the face of Greg Abbott's latest attempt to silence critics of a foreign government. Speakers will provide updates, share community impacts, and announce the launch of a Community Task Force to lead rapid response, legal aid, and resource coordination.
