A quarter of a century ago today: Manchester United sensationally sold Jaap Stam to Lazio. Personally I never believed Fergies excuses at the time or since about selling Stam. I strongly suspect that Fergie found out about the steroids and he wouldn't have wanted anything to tarnish the treble. None of Fergie's excuses for selling him every made sense & he was never afraid to bend the truth. There's no evidence that Fergie knew. It's just a theory I've never been able to shake. One hell of a coincidence, though...
