Deeply saddened by the passing of Padma Shri Dr. Girish Bharadwaj, fondly known as the Bridge Man of India. I join the people of Dakshina Kannada in grieving the loss of one of our finest sons. Dr. Bharadwaj built far more than bridges. He built hope, connected communities, and opened pathways to opportunity for countless people living in some of the country’s most remote regions. Born and raised in Sullia, his pioneering work in constructing over 140 low-cost suspension bridges across India stands as a lasting testament to how innovation, driven by compassion and a spirit of service, can transform lives.
