More than 200 extra police officers have been sent into Middlesbrough after a series of violent incidents in recent days. Cars were set on fire last night as youths gathered at a vigil for one of the young men killed in the fatal A66 crash which left seven people dead including 2 police officers. The local council leader said detectives and armed response officers would help keep "innocent residents" safe.

17-year-old Beth Knight was at a London train station when she was approached by a man. She didn't know at the time, but she was being secretly filmed on his Meta glasses. She tells Channel 4 News she was "terrified" and didn't know how the interaction would end. Billed as the latest high-tech must have, there's growing backlash against Meta's smart glasses amid evidence some users are secretly filming women without their knowledge or consent. Meta insists they designed their AI glasses with privacy and safety features built in from the start - including an LED light which comes on whenever someone is filming.

'I will never be safe in a man's toilet', says Isabella who is a trans woman. Thousands of single-sex spaces in the UK, like changing rooms and toilets, should be used based on biological sex, according to new guidelines that come into place today from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. The guidance says trans people should instead be offered a separate mixed-sex space. It follows a Supreme Court ruling last year that the definition of sex for the purposes of the Equality Act means biological sex - the sex of a person at birth, not the gender you identify with. Large crowds have turned out in central London at a vigil for the former Cambridge University professor Jason Arday - who was found dead last week. Almost 100,000 people have now signed a petition drawn up by the Good Law project calling for an immediate public inquiry. They claimed his death was the direct result of the sustained press harrassment which Mr Arday was subjected to - and said racism lay at the heart of the story.

Four men have pleaded guilty to destroying four Jewish community ambulances in an arson attack in Golders Green, north London, causing damage worth a million pounds. 20-year-old Hamza Iqbal, 19-year-old Rehan Khan and Judex Atshatshi and Saif Ali, who are both eighteen, pleaded guilty to a charge of destroying or damaging property, being reckless as to whether life would be endangered in the early hours of 23 March. Prosecutors have said they believe the incident was a targeted attack against the Jewish community.

Around four million women in England who have missed cervical screening appointments will be sent free at-home testing kits. The NHS will send out invites over the next year. Latest figures from NHS England show only 68.8% of women who qualify are up to date with their cervical screening. The measure is part of the health service's target to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.

The vast majority of England's rivers, lakes and coastal waters are polluted by sewage - according to a new survey by the Environment Agency. Its research found just 14% are in good ecological health - while not a single body of water is safe from toxic chemicals. Campaigners said England's rivers were some of the filthiest in Europe - despite repeated Government promises to clean them up.

One person has died and 15 are missing or unaccounted for after heavy rain triggered a deadly flash flood at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. More than 60 people were airlifted out of the area and popular tourist spots were closed as officials surveyed the damage. The body of a 46-year-old man was recovered on Sunday evening near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River. The flash flood has forced evacuations, pushed large boulders into the river and knocked out the only water pipeline that serves tourists and residents, according to the National Park Service.

Rescuers in Nepal are racing to reach around 900 people believed to be trapped inside hydropower tunnels after devastating flash floods swept through the region. The disaster has killed at least 903 people, while more than 4,200 remain missing in Nepal. Rescue teams are battling deep mud, debris and dangerous conditions as they try to access the tunnels. Officials say there is still hope that some people may have survived in safer areas underground.
