🥁Drumroll please….we are honoured to announce that Nhial Deng, a refugee from South Sudan, is the winner of the $100,000 #GlobalStudentPrize 🏆 2023! Selected from almost 4000 nominations and applications from 122 countries worldwide, Nhial accepted his award in New York during UN General Assembly week 2023. ✅ 💡 24-year-old Nhial Deng spent almost half his life in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, arriving at only 11 years of age, alone and without family, after fleeing his village in western Ethiopia after an armed militia attack. But Nhial has shown tremendous courage to continue fighting for a better future, not just for himself, but for thousands like him. He has gone on to empower over 20,000 refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya through peacebuilding, education, and entrepreneurship programmes, as well as creating a safe space for young people to heal from their trauma.
