By donating to the United Nations a soil sample collected from the far side of the moon by the Chang’e‑6 mission, China is delivering on the four major global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping. The move demonstrates China’s firm support for the United Nations and multilateralism as well as its sense of responsibility as a major country on the peaceful use of outer space and improving global space governance. China looks forward to working with all countries to uphold relevant international law with the Outer Space Treaty as the cornerstone, abide by the paramount principle of exploring and using outer space for peaceful purposes, firmly oppose attempts to weaponize space or turn it into a battlefield, make sure progress in science and technology will bring greater benefits to all humanity, and ensure that space will truly become a platform for win‑win cooperation.

In 2023, Xinjiang received nearly 400 delegations and groups that consist of over 4,300 visitors from more than a dozen countries and international organizations. Among them are government officials, diplomats, religious figures, experts, scholars, journalists and ordinary travelers. They listened to clergies giving sermons at mosques and the Islamic institutes, and visited cultural heritage sites. They went to local factories, businesses and farms to learn about Xinjiang’s development, and visited ordinary households to see the happy life of various ethnic groups.

![THE SECRETARY-GENERAL‘S VIDEO MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR ： Chun Jie Kuai Le! [春节快乐！Happy Lunar New Year.] Happy Lunar New Year. I am pleased to send my warmest greetings as we usher in the Year of the Dragon. The dragon symbolizes energy, wisdom, protection and good luck. We need these qualities to rise to today’s global challenges. This year, the celebration at the United Nations is special: for the first time, the Lunar New Year is part of the UN holiday calendar. I thank China and the Chinese people for your unwavering support to the United Nations, multilateralism and global progress. Together, we can realize a sustainable, just and peaceful future. I wish you good health, happiness and prosperity in this new year. Xie Xie!
