The president of the Republic of #Zimbabwe President of Zimbabwe explains to SABC News that #CAB3 would not create a President who can rule for 37 years like the former President Robert Mugabe who came to power as the country's first Prime Minister in April 1980, transitioned to the role of President in 1987, and remained in office until he resigned in November 2017. The Constitution would still require leadership renewal after the completion of the maximum two terms. Whether the terms are five years or seven years long, the principle remains the same: no President would be permitted to continue beyond the constitutional limit. The purpose of extending term length is not to create permanent leaders but to provide greater continuity for long-term national projects such as dams, highways, railways, power stations, industrial parks, and other infrastructure initiatives that often take many years to complete. From this perspective, the debate is not about removing term limits but about balancing leadership continuity with constitutional safeguards.
