The problem with this insurgent wave of Democratic candidates is that without bases to mobilize into mass movements against the ruling class, they are effectively useless. Currently, these candidates are not using mass movements to build power but instead working within the hierarchy of the Democratic Party — a party that is beholden to corporate donors with a vested interest in maintaining U.S. imperialism and working class austerity.

The American prison system has been turned into a rentier system of profit extraction by major corporations and lobbyists. Legalized bribery in the U.S. has enabled business interests to extract tolls from virtually every activity prisoners engage in, such as charging fees for emails to family members, as well as permitting corporations like McDonald's to utilize prisoners for labor while providing them extremely low wages and no benefits. Our government's treatment of these prisoners is a window into the way the American elite sees the rest of us, and the true nature of our profit-driven system.

While the insurgent wave of new progressive Democrats have, for the most part, consistently opposed American support for Israel's genocidal policy in Gaza, many of them still support NATO's expansionist war in Ukraine. I was there when the agreement was made between the West and Russia to not expand NATO beyond a unified Germany. NATO, led by the U.S., went on to break that promise several times, eventually culminating in the Ukraine proxy war.

An audience member at a Q&A recently asked me why I'm so apocalyptic. The genocide in Gaza, beyond being a tragedy, marks an irreversible shift in the global world order. Before the genocide, the imperialist ambitions of the Western oligarchic class were partially constrained by the utopian ideal of the rules-based order. Now that ideal is gone, and unrestrained barbarity will characterize the methodology of the war-making ruling class. In other words — our future is an apocalyptic one.

The United States is not a fascist country yet. But the process to become one is unfolding rapidly. The primary reason for this is the capitulation of the Democratic Party to the corporate donor class. The liberal class — intent on crushing any attempts to subvert the agenda of its oligarchic masters — has ushered in this new dark age.

Alastair Crooke describes the latest phase of the Iran War. The Iranians, after being betrayed by Trump when he violated the MoU, are no longer waiting to respond to American attacks — they've adopted a proactive military response, focused on hitting their enemies where it hurts, and moving away from any kind of agreement.

With little hope of the genocide in Gaza subsiding, dock workers in major Italian port cities have organized strikes and large demonstrations to halt arms shipments to Israel. These actions are a direct response to the refusal of international institutions and governments around the world to confront the carnage. Though the genocide continues, the dockworkers’ industrial disruption offer us a model of resistance. Will the Italian way spread to the imperial core — and can it end the genocide? Our documentary, Resistance 101: Forging a New Movement for Palestine In Italy, premieres on The Chris Hedges YouTube channel tomorrow morning. We will have a Livestream Q&A to discuss the film and its subject matter at 3pm ET.

John Mearsheimer explains the leverage that Iran holds in regards to the global oil markets. If Trump ups the ante this week and goes after Iranian civilian infrastructure, he says, the Iranians can shut down all the ports that are currently allowing 7 million barrels of oil to still pass through the Gulf today — inflicting complete devastation on the U.S. and the world economy.

Beyond revealing the depravity of the ruling class, the genocide in Gaza has unveiled the true inner workings of the global financial order — as regular people continue to struggle, war concentrates wealth into the hands of the transnational oligarchs running the world, providing them pretexts to develop technology that increases their capacity to control disobedient populations and secure their own class interests. .Whitney Webb explains why the Israeli power nexus has made such a significant effort to tie itself to American Big Tech companies. They want to make American technological infrastructure so dependent on Israel that a meaningful boycott of Israeli companies — the BDS movement — would be impossible.

One of the main problems Americans face as the Empire declines is that we are ruled by grifters and idiots. When the British Empire fell, it slowly disengaged with its more imperialist impulses. The American Empire, on the other hand, has both of its political parties ramping up the nation's militarism, and as a result is inflicting massive suffering on the global populace as it falls.

.Seth Harp details the role that CIA asset and U.S. Special Forces soldier, Ali Mohamed, played in training Al Qaeda in tactics eerily similar to the 9/11 attacks. While the canonical accounts of 9/11 acknowledge the role that the 1980s U.S.-backing of the Mujahideen played in leading to the attacks, they never account for this close relationship between an active U.S. Special Forces soldier and the top brass of Al Qaeda.

Much of Trump's America was foreshadowed by what he did to the Atlantic City Trump Taj Mahal — utilizing heavy surveillance on casino gamblers, Trump extracted profits from victims he was able to lure into his resort, and left the place in ruins with his contractors unpaid when it shut down. Trump capitalizes on the alienation that capitalism has wrought in the American public — and through his exploitation of it, he and the rest of the bipartisan political class have made these pathologies grow.
