BREAKING : Another lockdown incoming??? THE HANTA VIRUS What it actually is a rare virus you get from rodents, not from other people. Yeah it’s been in the news because of a cruise ship outbreak, but doctors say it’s not gonna be the next COVID. The overall risk to you is still really low. How do you catch it? 👇 From rodents only: You breathe in tiny dust particles from mouse/rat pee, poop, or spit. This usually happens when you’re cleaning out an old dusty garage, cabin, shed, or abandoned building. You can also get it from a bite, but that’s rare. From other people? Almost never. The only exception is the Andes strain in South America, and even then you’d need to be in close contact for a long time, like sharing a room. That’s what’s going on with the cruise ship. What it feels like👇 It starts like the flu, 1-8 weeks after you’re exposed: Week 1-2: “I think I have the flu” stage Fever, chills, body aches, headache, feeling wiped out Nausea, throwing up, stomach pain Week 2+: “Something’s actually wrong” stage. This is when it gets serious. Your lungs can fill with fluid and you’ll struggle to breathe. That’s called HPS and it’s the dangerous part. There’s also a different version in Europe/Asia that messes with your kidneys instead of lungs. Not really relevant unless you’re traveling there. How dangerous is it?👇 If it hits your lungs (HPS): Up to 1 in 2 people don’t make it if they don’t get treatment fast. If it hits your kidneys (HFRS): Less than 1 in 100 to 15 in 100, depending on the strain No pill or vaccine for it yet. Doctors just treat the symptoms oxygen, fluids, ICU if you need it. Catching it early is what saves you. Should you stress about it? 👇 Nah, not unless you’re literally cleaning out a place full of mouse droppings. Most cases happen to people in rural areas or people working in old buildings. WHO says no need to cancel trips or panic. How to not get it 👇 Keep it simple: Don’t touch rodents or their poop. If you have to clean a dusty area with rodent droppings: wear gloves + a mask, spray everything with bleach solution first, and don’t sweep or vacuum that just launches the virus into the air. When to actually go to the hospital If you have flu symptoms that keep getting worse over a few days AND you remember being around mice/rats or their droppings recently, tell the doctor. Don’t just ride it out at home. That’s it. It sounds scary on paper but 99.9% of people will never encounter it.
