We’re fed up. Canadians are fed up. For months, Jews in 🇨🇦 have been intimidated by anti-Israel radicals. Aggressive demonstrations have taken place outside synagogues and taken over Jewish neighbourhoods, calls of ‘Death to the Jews’ have been chanted in front of Jewish schools — some of which have been shot at while others threatened with bombs — Jewish businesses have been vandalized, and Jewish students have been assaulted on campus. And yet those behind these incidents try to claim they are being vilified as antisemitic. They claim they have nothing against Jews. Well, let this erase any misconceptions: here is yet another proof point that their targeting of the Jewish community is calculated and deliberate. It’s long past time that the hateful people behind this and every other antisemitic act are held accountable. Law enforcement stepping up to put a stop to this is exactly what is needed and what we've been calling for.

This call, one suggesting a similar outcome to the November 7 Amsterdam pogrom will happen in Toronto, is just one of many threatening phone calls received since that horrific attack on Israeli soccer fans. A police report has been made. Harassing and threatening owners and staff of a restaurant in Toronto because of the Israel-Hamas war is unacceptable. Hatred towards Jews and Israelis, or members of any faith, ethnic, cultural and/or marginalized group, must be condemned. The blood of dead babies - Israeli & Palestinian - is on #Hamas. Rhetoric like PM Justin Trudeau's today enables Hamas to continue to cynically & criminally use the Palestinian civilian population as human shields to advance its genocidal goal. And, while surely not his intent, such assertions also fuel #Antisemitism at home here in #Canada. Unless #Israel destroys Hamas, Hamas will continue to destroy the hopes of Palestinians & Israelis alike to pursue a future of peace. If Canada wants to contribute to the goal of sustainable peace, it will stand firmly with Israel as it toils to remove the murderous Hamas regime from Gaza. Anything less condemns the region to perpetual suffering for all. Disappointingly, Ms. Bouchard declined to provide a clear commitment to Canadians. At a time of rising hate, Canadians deserve accountability through an investigation into systemic racism and bias at the national public broadcaster.

By comparing mass murderer Yayha Sinwar and human rights hero Nelson Mandela, the Mayor of Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish has - again - crossed a line with her recent statement during a City Council meeting earlier today. “I just want to point out, and I’m not being facetious, Nelson Mandela was declared a terrorist by the United States of America ‘til the year 2008. Your terrorist and somebody else’s terrorist may be two different things.” Yayha Sinwar was a terrorist, the main architect of the October 7 attacks and the leader of Hamas in Gaza, responsible for the deaths of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians. Hamas is recognized as a terrorist entity by many countries around the world including Canada. Of course, the Government that listed Hamas as a terrorist entity was... Ms. Parrish's own party, back in 2002, as she was serving as a Member of Parliament. Making any correlation to Nelson Mandela, a man honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize, to Yayha Sinwar, is despicable. It is an insult to the too-many families who have lost loved ones because of Sinwar, including Canadians. Mayor Parrish's moral compass is obviously broken. Moreover, with this odious comparison, she sullied the reputation of the city she leads. Mississaugans, and frankly Ontarians and Canadians, deserve better. The Mayor should apologize immediately for these remarks.

We commend Dr. Arsalan Kahnemuyipour and the many Iranian Canadians who wrote to CBC to demand an honest portrayal of the protests and violence in Iran. Last week, Power & Politics platformed a spokesperson from an organization repeating Islamic Regime talking points and blaming events on “foreign governments.” Yesterday, Dr. Kahnemuyipour set the record straight, amplifying the voices of Iranian Canadians—many of whom have lost loved ones. While the host apologized, this points to a deeper systemic problem at the public broadcaster. The CBC must be held accountable and not continue to platform voices claiming to represent Canadians while advancing narratives of the Islamic Regime and the terror groups it supports.
