People have been seized from their homes and workplaces, scientists and students deported without due process, and those who attacked the U.S. Capitol pardoned. As Hillary Clinton reminds us, progress is never inevitable. It depends on people who refuse to accept the erosion of rights as normal — and who insist that democracy, dignity, and the rule of law still matter.
