If I remember correctly, the tv broadcast called this a broken play by FSU, but watch the OL delay and then move in unison. It was 100% designed. In some ways, Malzahn didn’t do anything overly complicated relative to normal, but he threw in more trickery than some realize.

Couple of things from this final play… 1) Ryan Williams ran a good route. Seen some ask about or criticize it. This wasn’t on him. 2) VanDeMark getting driven back 5-6 yards didn’t give Ty the ability to step into this throw. Big reason why Ty couldn’t drive it in there and it came up short. 3) No guarantee Ryan makes this play, even if Ty could’ve gotten more on it. Peyton Bowen does a nice job reading it, but Ryan would’ve at least had more of a chance.

Mincey, who’s the single-high safety here, in a tough position to provide help over the top. Honestly, think it’s just the perfect play-call for FSU. Lee is left on an island against a veteran speedster, and the Seminoles were confident they could take an outside shot downfield here due to Wommack preferring to run so much single-high. Good coaching by Malzahn and company.

Another intriguing DL for MSU: NIU transfer Raishein Thomas (No. 25 in the clips below). Was listed at 6-4, 262 for the Huskies, but is now up to 290. Added mass allows him to hold up better inside and in those odd fronts. Back-to-back plays here from him. 1) Good job setting the edge on first-and-10 to set up a second-and-8. Then 2) follows it up with an effective stab that almost collapses the backside of the pocket right into Shapen’s lap. State did a nice job of adding several quality bodies to its DL from the transfer portal.

This is one of those moments I’ll never forget being there live. Alabama fans watching their Heisman-favorite QB go down w/an injury against a top-4 team in a 7-pt, fourth quarter deficit. A team the backup had struggled mightily against less than 12 months prior. And yet, Bama fans went wild when Jalen came in. Idk why, but I honestly believed Bama was going to win in this moment. Just something about it stood out. Every reason for fans to be concerned and yet, they didn’t show it in this moment. Don’t ever tell me Bama nation didn’t support Jalen Hurts. It’s simply not true.

I get what you’re saying, but THIS is the type of team Bama has struggled w/under DeBoer. They’re 7-1 vs. top-25 teams under DeBoer, and 8-4 vs. non-top-25 w/all 4 losses being to teams either at or around .500 records (and away from BDS). I don’t say this to alarm anyone; I say it to sell the point that NO ONE should take South Carolina lightly, regardless of how they’ve looked. Keep the foot on the GAS!

Never paid attention to specific stances for specific drills until now. But I did find it interesting that players like Zulu and Henry were doing this from a 3-pt stance while the rest are doing it from a 2-pt stance. Are the players allowed to pick what’s comfortable to them? 🤷‍♂️

Some established Ole Miss players were reportedly upset when NIL term sheets were leaked earlier this week, revealing the contract details for some of the new additions. This could be a reason why the Rebels lost key talent at the last second to the portal, which is one reason why I believe Alabama isn’t going to entertain this “highest bidder” game. Massive contracts announce to the world that you’re willing to play in that sandbox, and every elite recruit wants to be the exception. These are things you *must* think about when it comes to roster construction. Alabama takes care of its own FIRST and FOREMOST.

Maybe TBSN is hearing differently than me, but I want to at least clarify because this phrasing runs similar to some things I said yesterday. I haven’t heard about Brown making guys look silly (at least not consistently); I have heard about him making plays though. I was sharing what I’d been hearing about Brown so far this spring and had shared with Jimmy recently — not what I had heard about Brown from the scrimmage. I was excited when DeBoer praised him though, because it had backed up everything I had heard about him so far. Don’t know if this clip was using what I said or if they were running off different info, but just wanted to clarify in case any confusion was created. He’s looked good and made things happen — and that’s pretty much been the case even with him starting to see opportunities against better competition (or at least it was heading into yesterday’s scrimmage). Don’t think much — if any — of that has been against the first-team though. He’s not standing out *that much.* And I don’t know of him making everybody put in front of him look silly. Cody Hardy is expected to visit Alabama this week. Many are wondering why DeBoer is going after an Elon TE with 65 career receiving yards. After watching his tape, I see the vision. -Big (6-5, 271), powerful inline option -Technically sound/efficient mover -Gets after people -Almost a third OT in certain situations -Upside as a pass-catcher Don’t use surface stats or where they’re coming from to write guys off. Not saying Hardy will end up in Tuscaloosa, but there’s a method to some of this madness. He’s getting attention for a reason. I’m a big fan.
