Less than three months after US forces moved into Venezuela and detained President Nicolás Maduro, the controversial radar set up in Tobago has now been dismantled. The military-grade system at the ANR Robinson International Airport in Crown Point was removed just five days after Chief Secretary Farley Augustine announced US troops would soon depart. PNM Tobago Council leader Ancil Dennis is welcoming the move, saying it proves the public was misled about the radar’s true purpose.

“I done yuh know…” Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has declined to comment on statements made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the opening of yesterday’s 50th Caricom Heads of Government Meeting. Persad-Bissessar used her address to criticise the regional bloc for what she described as a failure to stand united behind member states facing external threats, particularly from neighbouring Venezuela. Fighting back tears, a 29-year-old single mother is pleading with the public to clear her name after a viral video, allegedly showing her shoplifting at a minimart, triggered a wave of criticism online. The mother of two said she is innocent and insisted she has never stolen anything, despite footage circulating on social media purportedly linking her to shoplifting allegations at Maddy’s Minimart and Pluck Shop.
