We live in an age of youth sport specialization. When I was a kid in the 1980s and 90s, myself and every kid I knew played multiple sports. Rightly or wrongly, this has changed. Kids specializing in one sport is the norm. This is why once kids show an interest in strength training, I think it’s important to balance the body in reverse of their sport. My daughter is a 12-year old soccer player, and one of several exercises I’m using with her is the nordic curl. This is because they’re fun, easily scalable (with the ATG Family Nordic Bench), and will help build up her resilience and strength behind her knees—crucial for lowering the chances of serious knee injury!
