This is the Middle East Western analysts spent fifteen years asking for. Two days before the signing, Steven A. As a consequence, people became far more indoctrinated and radicalized by PKK propaganda than in other cities like Raqqa. When Syrian security forces and traffic police entered the city today, they weren't greeted by smiling children, but by children throwing stones. Forgive them: these children have never attended a normal school. The schools they went to were basically indoctrination centers, and their parents are likely completely brainwashed as well. Deradicalizing the youth in formerly PKK-controlled areas will be just as hard as deradicalizing youth who grew up in a jihadi environment. A huge challenge for Syria.

Today Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said: "Saudi Arabia did all of this to serve Israel. Everything Saudi Arabia did against Yemen was under the control of the United States and Israel." For years Abdul-Malik al-Houthi denied any Iranian support! While obviously working close with Iran! Start with the premise. Iran wants Muslims to believe that hating Israel, or being at war with it, is what makes you a true Muslim. It isn't. If it were, the entire Arab League would not have offered Israel full normalisation in 2002 - in exchange for withdrawal to the 1967 lines and an independent Palestinian state. That's basic logic! Now let's rewind. I'm not a Yemen expert, and I don't claim to be. Give me a map of Syria and I can show you where the conservative Sunni areas are, where tribal culture is strong, where secular, druze or Christian communities live - even which areas stood with which side during the revolution. Yemen is for me far more complex! So feel free to correct me! But the broad lines as I see it: In 2011, Yemen rose up. Youth activists, the Muslim Brotherhood's Islah, socialists, Nasserists, tribes - and yes, the Houthis - stood in the same squares! The message was national: anti-corruption, social justice, an end to a family regime. The shared enemy was Saleh. It didn't last. Within months it became a power struggle. Houthi against Islah and its tribal allies. Zaydi against Salafi. In 2014 the Houthis took Sanaa by force. They never openly announced that their Islam should rule Yemen. They simply built the state around it! So what is their Islam? Hard to say! Their founder openly admired Khomeini. Their slogan - "Death to America, death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" - is modelled on the Iranian revolution. They have adopted Twelver rituals like mass Ashura commemorations and Eid al-Ghadir, never part of Yemeni Zaydi tradition in this form! Their leader functions as a supreme leader, with loyal supervisors in every ministry. They have built an end-times narrative where Yemen has a special role and liberating Jerusalem is a religious duty, and they claim the Gaza war brought it closer. That narrative is now their main recruitment tool and their justification for the Red Sea attacks. The slogans, the rituals, the state architecture, the regional enemy map - copied from the Islamic Republic. Not from traditional Zaydism! But where Iran rests on clerics, the Houthis rest on bloodline. They justify their rule by claiming Hashemite descent. That is not Tehran's model. It is the logic of the Imamate Yemenis overthrew in 1962. In 2020 they even revived khums (religious tax), a 20% levy with a share reserved for Hashemites. What people don't talk about: the Houthis don't only work with Iran. According to UN experts, they cooperate with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula - weapons, intelligence, prisoner swaps. They have trained al-Shabaab in Somalia to build drones and explosives! Sunni jihadists who consider them heretics! So what do we have? A movement that presented itself as part of a national social justice uprising in 2011, copied large parts of Iran's shia Islam, revived the privileges of the old Imamate, and works with Sunni jihadists when it suits them! To me it looks like a movement that claims to fight for God and the oppressed - but behaves like a family that will do anything for power! So maybe calm down on the Israel and Saudi Arabia rhetoric - and explain what you are actually about?

That raw, confrontational energy never left me. And this track? It’s exactly my kind of music🙈Except I tried to create a modern Red Sea battle anthem. Fair warning: this won’t be everyone’s taste. It’s loud, aggressive, industrial and unapologetic! But I hope the lyrics have a point you can agree with! Iran’s regional proxy network. Houthi attacks threatening Saudi Arabia and international shipping. The propaganda about resistance and the so-called “Axis of Resistance” - while Yemenis pay the price and the region remains on edge. I’ve always liked King Abdullah II. I’m well aware of the criticism against him, especially from the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters. But I’ve never let that define my view of him. I see him as an honourable leader who genuinely tries to serve Jordan and protect the stability of the region. And today, at the UN General Assembly, he once again spoke with remarkable clarity about Israel’s conduct: “This Israeli government’s expansionist appetite is now a regional threat. And today, Syria is the warning. The international community is choosing not to see repeated incursions, creeping territorial expansion, new facts and posts on the ground, including around vital water resources. Step by calculated step, Israel is testing how far it can go. And every time the international community looks away, Israel learns that it can go even further, across borderlines and legal limits.” Those are extremely serious words from the King of Jordan! And regardless of where one stands on the wider conflict, his warning deserves to be heard.

Mazloum, it’s time to choose Syria over Qandil. You’ve already sacrificed more than enough Kurdish youth - over 12,000 lives lost for a PKK project that never belonged to Syria! Entire generations gone. And for what? Syria has bled for 14 years. It deserves a future, not another war dictated from the mountains. History will not remember statements - only actions. Be loyal to Syria. Stop taking commands from Qandil. Let Syrians decide Syria’s future! Qandil has no right to destroy a country in the name of the Kurds. That position has become harder to defend now that Kurdish leaders like Talabani and Barzani openly support and empower the PKK. Yesterday, millions of Kurds across Europe demonstrated in support of the PKK in Syria- effectively telling the world: “We are all PKK.” That raises uncomfortable questions. If the PKK is so beloved, why did they come to Europe? The PKK has controlled Syrian Kurdish areas since 2011, and there has been no large-scale fighting there since 2015. For over a decade, supporters had the option to live under the movement they now glorify. So to every Syrian Kurd who joined these protests in Europe: what exactly did you flee? Not Assad. Not the PKK. The reality is this: there are now more PKK supporters living in Western societies than in Kurdish areas in the Middle East- and that will create serious, long-term consequences for Europe!
