Visiting with missionaries in England recently was immensely nostalgic for me, as I also served as a young missionary in this wonderful country. Elder Clark G. Gilbert and I were so grateful to spend time with these amazing servants. I testify that missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world are indeed the Lord’s emissaries.

The Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ provide spiritual guidance and teaching from Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. The Lord declared they would be joined together and “become one in thine hand” concerning the stick of Judah, which is the Bible, and the stick of Joseph, which is the Book of Mormon (see Ezekiel 37:15–17; see also 2 Nephi 3:12). The Book of Mormon provides fundamental doctrine that enhances and builds upon the Bible. For example, where the Bible provides an accurate account of the mortal ministry of Jesus Christ, including His death and Resurrection, the Book of Mormon is more explicit about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, something prophets explained in detail prior to His birth. We treasure these books for their profound role in documenting God’s direction to ancient prophets and people and the guidance they provide for our own personal lives.

Those who believe in, humbly worship, and testify of Jesus Christ have always experienced trials, tribulation, and adversities (see John 16:33). It has never been easy for His followers. But the scriptures are clear: peaceable followers of Christ who are righteous, follow the Savior, and keep His commandments will be blessed.

The spiritual conditions necessary to proceed along the covenant pathway all relate to the heart. The scriptures refer favorably to hearts that are changed, broken, healed, and turned, and hearts full of love, gratitude, joy, and peace. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:5).

I’m standing in the park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Elder Melvin J. Ballard dedicated all of South America for the preaching of the gospel. President M. Russell Ballard loved this spot where his grandfather had, in such a beautiful way, extended the dedication for all of South America from this spot in Argentina.
