in hindsight even before I knew anything about the books Wayside was not that fun to watch as a kid cause well... it's a guy "losing" to dumb unfunny assholes over and over. kids cartoons know how to turn that into a weird numb feeling no kid really likes yet they persist

I realize these sequences served as the "boy-skewing" equivalent to a magical girl transformation; instead of how stylish and pretty it is, it emphasizes the melancholy of what's going on here (Ben is mutating himself into these forms). Really cool!

I've seen countless souls mention how good this intro is I've seen exactly zero of these souls mention the violins at the end. They're the element that brings it all home

barnyard ditched the contemporary party animal gimmick of its movie to lean more into cartoony absurdism which did work but I realized that sort of orphans its country-rock intro as the sole remnant of that idea. feels like it's advertising a totally different show

in spite of everything I've been led to believe about rigs versus hand drawings, this (the bottom clip) seems like a much more straightforward process to me than what it took to make this

gumball's stinkers are of such a bizarre quality compared to other toons. it's like all the jokes the writers expect to be the best end up being the dullest, you can almost picture them waiting for laughs in silence like that one scene in Joker

so as we know, Johnny's parents' whole thing is they swap gender roles I could be reading too deep but this one seems to make a connection between that and his neat freak antics. Almost like he's insecure about being a homemaker instead of the provider he's "supposed" to be

this is one of the most delicate-sounding dubs I've heard in a while I almost don't even wanna SAY "dub"; it's just a translation, no frills. Music intact, scripts accurate (with just a hint of Woosleyism so it's easier on the ears), and naturalistic line reads

K I'm gonna be honest, even as a kid I sensed that the later episodes often mistook Clarence's "weirdness" for just him being stupid when in reality he can in fact "keep up" just like anyone else, just with his own quirks

FBCC got a lot of credit for bringing wacky squash-and-stretch principles to CGI, but there was barely any noise for this one for doing the same thing earlier and better

I get wanting a show to "say" more thematically instead of just being comedy, but this is literally the only thing the first four episodes have been interested in saying. over and over and over again
