It came down to the tiebreakers. Davino led 2–1 and only needed to ride Blaze for 10 seconds. Blaze had managed just 9 seconds of riding time on Davino. Davino did ride Blaze past the 10-second mark, but Blaze hit a huge reversal to eliminate the riding time factor and win outright, 3–2. Blaze remained undefeated on the season, while Davino suffered his first loss.

There only has been two of them. Talking about Two 4x Blood rounders. Two great wrestlers who just came up short of the podium on 4 occasions. Julian Ramirez (Cornell) had a career mark of 96-21. He had wins over 2x NCAA champ David Carr, NCAA champ Shane Griffith, and 2 wins over NCAA finalist Quincy Monday while winning 3 conference titles. Micky Phillippi (Pitt) had a career mark of 107-23. Phillippi had career wins over 17 different All Americans, a future NCAA champ in Byrd, and 5 NCAA finalist including 4x NCAA finalist Daton Fix. His win over Daton Fix was the only time in Daton Fix’s VERY long career that he was defeated in the regular season. I make this because, well, I love stats like this…I also make this not to shame these two in anyway; but rather celebrate the outstanding careers they had!!

Many questions of the ages of the 1947 guys. Lowell Lange was young, born August 17th, 1928 making him 18 during NCAAs of 1947. As you can see, 2 of the 4, much older. FYI, “True Freshman” is not defined as someone who right away competes the fall semester following high school graduation. It means they compete the first year they are enrolled. The two fellas who were 23 below graduated high school, and went and fought in WWII for a few years before heading to college. Keep that in mind please before making any disrespectful comments about being elder freshman 😬. Sergio Vega- 19 Jax Forrest - 19 ——————— Lowell Lange - 18 Dick Hauser- 19 Joe Scarpello- 23 Dick Hutton- 23

Morgan State’s Yannis Charles has had a day. This at EIWA’s 157 lbs. Charles came in as the 12 seed at a weight which had only 2 allocations. He first upset 5 seed Nichter (Drexel) 10-4. Then upset 4 seed Nadeau (Binghamton) 9-7. Then came this in the semis vs 1 seed Jonathan Ley (Navy). Early on the two heading towards out of bounds and Ley Lateral drops him on gym floor. Coach Kenny Monday takes his wrestler back for concussion protocol while the action was deemed illegal for one point. It was decided Charles could not return. With that Charles has punched a ticket to NCAAs without even needing to wrestle the final while Ley will after Russell back for third and hope that he gets an out large to get in Not a good situation at all.
