In 1933, the U.S. government forced Americans to surrender their gold. When Bitcoin becomes important enough, the easiest coins for the government to grab will be the enormous pools held by regulated custodians. That’s what Bitcoiners mean when we warn about a "6102 Attack," and it’s a major reason why self-custody matters. In today’s OUTSIDE MONEY.

THE "FED PUT" ISN’T A CONSPIRACY. IT’S MATH. The Fed doesn’t really have a put under the stock market. It has one under the debt system. And once you understand why, you understand a lot more about where the dollar is headed, and why many choose to store value in hard assets.

“This one stings,” said Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple. The CLARITY Act failed to advance in the Senate yesterday. Crypto companies need Washington to write the rules for them. Bitcoin never did. Crypto goes to Washington asking for permission. Bitcoin doesn’t need it. And every time the market understands that a little better, Bitcoin gets stronger. In today's OUTSIDE MONEY

THE WORLD IS GOING BACK TO GOLD Foreign central banks are running their own version of the debasement trade. Their share of the Treasury market has fallen from 40% to 12% since 2008. At the same time, they started buying gold at a pace we haven’t seen in decades.

What if the American empire is just beginning? We’re only 81 years into America’s run as the world’s leading power. Rome dominated the Mediterranean for nearly six centuries. Why are so many people convinced America’s time is almost up? The European maritime empires had relatively small homelands and powerful neighbors. America has the resources and internal market of a continent, plus protective oceans on both sides. Enormous agricultural and energy resources. Rivers connecting our heartland to world markets. An extraordinary ability to attract talented people and turn them into Americans. There has never been a global power based in this particular part of the world before. Assuming we’ll follow the same trajectory as earlier powers could be a huge mistake. China needed an extraordinary amount to go right to surpass that combination. We even helped them along with American capital, technology, and market access. But China’s share of the world economy, measured in dollars, has already fallen from its peak, losing ground relative to America in recent years. Could America stay on top for another 500 years? We don’t know. But we don’t know that it can’t, either. America could operate on a Bitcoin standard and still be the world’s leading power. The dollar didn’t create our geography, resources, nor our capacity to invent, build, and inspire. On today’s OUTSIDE MONEY:

Years ago, before Swan existed, she bought a lot of GBTC. She built a position worth more than $3 million at today’s prices. She wanted to turn those ETF shares into real on-chain Bitcoin that she could own directly, but there was a big question: what about the taxes? Then she saw the launch of 😎

CAPITALISM IS LOSING THE MORAL ARGUMENT Last month I was having a chat with Saifedean Ammous, and he told me a story that really stuck with me. He said it has become increasingly difficult to win an argument with a socialist at a dinner party.

Will AI be a Massive New Source of Demand for Bitcoin? Not in the ways people are talking about it. Not because of micropayments, and not as a means of anti-AI cyberdefense. But there IS a bull case that could make logical sense. Let's investigate...
