50-60 right-wing goons heckled and threatened AISA President Neha Bora today outside Mandir Marg Police Station, where she had been called for a hearing, even as the police looked on without intervening. We strongly condemn the inaction of the Delhi Police, which amounts to complicity and patronage. The double standard of the police, who are enabling extremists and hoodlums to attack peaceful protesters, stands exposed. Protesters are being assaulted and jailed while the ones actually "breaching peace" are given a free hand and are roaming around the national capital looking for their next target. We demand an end to this blatant complicity. The police are duty-bound to uphold the law and protect citizens, not to take instructions from Hindutva outfits that are unleashing violence on the streets.

Trade unionists from across India who are in Visakhapatnam for the All India Conference of the CITU CENTRE protested the illegal US attack on #Venezuela and the kidnapping of elected President #NicolasMaduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. Over 1,500 delegates and volunteers staged a massive, spontaneous demonstration at RK Beach in a powerful show of solidarity with the people of Venezuela. The conference unanimously adopted a resolution vehemently condemning US imperialist aggression and the bombardment of Venezuelan territory. The resolution demanded the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro.

When the bulldozers sent by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to demolish book stalls set up by the CPI(M) were turned back by people’s resistance, the BJP took a leaf out of the Nazi playbook and sent in armed police personnel, along with BJP-RSS goons, to smash the book stalls. The priorities of the BJP government are evident when it deploys a huge police force to destroy books, while 19 people, including a child, lost their lives in Chorbagan due to the lack of adequate police arrangements to control crowds and ensure public safety.

CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby and Rajya Sabha MP V Sivadasan visited Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi today to express their solidarity with the three JNU Students’ Union office-bearers and nine other students who are on the tenth day of hunger strike on campus. JNUSU President Aditi Mishra, Vice President Gopika Babu, General Secretary Sunil Yadav and nine others are on hunger strike over various demands, including the revocation of the rustication of union office-bearers, resumption of the internal entrance examination system, restoration of the Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment, and renovation of the crumbling infrastructure on campus. The Students' Union describes its struggle as part of the fight against the attack on public universities by the BJP-RSS. University officials have not yet responded to their demands.

The CPI(M) has registered a historic victory in the elections to Nokha Nagar Palika (Municipality) in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, winning 29 of the total 45 seats. The BJP secured 13 seats, while independent candidates won the remaining three seats. With this historic victory, the CPI(M) has taken control of the Nokha Municipality, which had been ruled alternately by the NCP and BJP for years.

Bengal Vandalism : On the night of May 5, in Jiaganj area of Murshidabad district, BJP goons attacked and broke a statue of Lenin. Our comrades immediately responded and filed a police complaint.
